OUR HISTORY
Utah women's hockey began when several hockey moms decided to start playing instead of watching.
Around 1991, Terri and Lynn Lyman (who now live in London, England) organized the team of about
eight women.
Known as the "Team from Ogden", the women practiced at the old Golden Spike Arena and Bountiful
rink. They didn't have matching jerseys or anything, but were having fun learning the game
their children had been playing.
These women also began playing tournaments in Idaho Falls and Sun Valley were only three
women's team participated.
When the Ogden Ice Sheet was built, more women joined from Salt Lake and the first real
women's hockey team in Utah was born -- the Wasatch Wings.
The team grew and grew and around 1997 the Salt Lake women decided to
migrate closer to home -- thus the Black Diamonds were born.
Today there are over 7 women's team in Utah with no age limits. Some are in their 50's.
Women's hockey in Utah continues to grow and is here to stay.
